This is the home base for the Gannonverse: my ongoing world of soft-creepy horror, weird fiction, mixed-media art, tiny creatures with opinions, and deep-dive genre criticism.
I’m Robert J Gannon (they/he) — author, artist, educator, 3D-printing gremlin, and lifelong lover of all things spooky and strange. For over twenty years, Sketching Details has evolved through many forms: a media criticism hub, a review site, an art space, and now a full creative ecosystem where my fiction, creature-making, and academic-style analysis all live in one place.

Genre fiction has always deserved better. When I launched the original version of this site, nuanced conversations around horror, sci-fi, and fantasy were rare.
I built my career on treating these genres with respect — and I’m proud to have contributed to the broader cultural shift toward taking “genre” seriously.
